Play Therapy:
According to the Association for Play Therapy, "Play is the child's language and toys are the child's words!"
Play is a fun, enjoyable activity that elevates our spirits and brightens our outlook on life. It expands self-expression, self-knowledge, self-actualization, and self-efficacy. Play relieves feelings of stress and boredom, connects us to people in a positive way, stimulates creative thinking and exploration, regulates our emotions, and boosts our ego (Landreth, 2002).
Gooden Counseling is excited and proud to offer play therapy to assist children in expressing their feelings and practice the skills and roles needed not just to survive, but also to THRIVE!
Teens & Young Adults:
"The hardest challenge is to be yourself in a world where everyone is trying to make you be somebody else." - E.E. Cummings
In today's world, life for a teen or young adult can be stressful, confusing, and overwhelming. Often times, they're faced with social, emotional, academic, and spiritual issues all while trying to gain independence and acceptance.
Gooden Counseling believes that every individual possesses character strengths to help them through difficult times and has the capacity to develop healthy boundaries, relationships and coping skills. Through counseling, teens and young adults will gain insight and skills to help them work toward emotional and behavioral wellness!
Family & Parent Therapy:
"The whole is bigger than the sum of its parts." - Aristotle
Family therapy is essentially a form of counseling that puts an emphasis on how family members interact with one another. Often times we habituate to roles and communication patterns that have become unhealthy. It is at these moments that families need support and assistance in gaining insight and creating healthier behaviors and communication.
Gooden Counseling provides both family therapy and parent consultation to encourage parents and families to move away from blaming one another and towards individual responsibility and accountability. It is our goal to help families reconnect and gain better insight into one another's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
